Luca’s Senior Photos at Mission Ranch, Carmel

Some senior sessions are big productions with outfit changes and a long shot list. Luca’s was the opposite: one great flannel, a pair of boots, and about an hour of sunset light at Mission Ranch in Carmel.

It was a family tradition, too. Luca’s older brother had his senior photos in this same spot, and his mom, Lisa, wanted Luca to have his there as well. I love getting to be part of something like that.

Why Mission Ranch works for senior photos

Mission Ranch is one of my favorite places in Carmel for a laid-back senior session. In a small area you get:

• White ranch fences that make easy, natural spots to lean and relax
• The meadow and the sheep, with the hills and cypress trees behind them
• The little pond and wooden bridge by the restaurant
• Rustic barn steps in soft, shaded light

You don’t have to walk far between spots, so the session stays relaxed. That matters a lot for guys who aren’t sure they want their picture taken.

A short, simple sunset session

We started on the barn steps, where Luca settled in quickly. After that we moved along the fence lines and out to the meadow just as the light turned golden over the pasture. Some of my favorites are the easy ones: Luca laughing on the bridge, and the wide shot of him at the fence with the sheep resting behind him.

Luca, thank you for being such a good sport and for all the real smiles. And Lisa, thank you for trusting me with another senior milestone in your family. Congratulations on your senior year, Luca!
